Growing as a Developer

With harder problems being thrown at us, we are growing quickly. I am glad to have a class that is willing to help each other and share their struggles and victories with us.

How has this course changed your outlook on learning? What’s changed? Why?

I am very happy going through this flipped-classroom approach to learning. When I was in high school, I had a hard time focusing, doing all my homework, and actually attending class. I ended up going to the schools alternative program, we were in smaller classes and were given all of the work we would do for the whole semester. I had more success getting my work done on my own and learning in a small group where we could communicate more. This course has been great for encouraging me to learn on my own again.

When frustration comes up how do you deal with it? What’s your course of action?

When I get a little frustrated, I will play a quick round of Fallguys or get a snack or do some stretching or even go punch our MMA bag for a little bit. i will usually come back to the issue that was bothering me and I will have a new solution to try. I have actually found that I like to have a video playing in the corner of my screen while I work. I can stay working for longer and still let myself work at a good pace. I hope that it's also teaching me to work when I am in a distracting situation.

Why should we teach to the whole person rather than to just a skill set? What benefits are there to this method?

We are going into an industry that is constantly growing and changing. I feel like we are being taught to be good learners. This will get us prepared to be good web developers but also good students who can pick up new skill sets when we need to.

How do you feel about your upcoming project? What do you anticipate while working with a classmate?

I am super happy to be making a project that I have total control of. I have been learning lots of new things to make what I want. I am not working with anyone but it leaves me with all the power to make what I want.
